No shit, which is why big networking vendors don't use Windows on their enterprise grade switches and routers. No OS with multitasking is a real-time OS, lol. Not any particular performance gains over a dedicated wifi 6 router setup. The "idiot proof" plug and play factor is the biggest selling point here. Future software revisions may improve things and make it a better option, but I wouldn't recommend buying one and hoping that happens either. Still, if you have the ability and patience to do some research and tweak your own settings on both your PC and the router itself, a decent dedicated router is probably still slightly better or equivalent at worst.Īt least given the current state of the Air Bridge anyway. So that's good for the casual market who can't make heads or tails of the settings in a router or PC's UI. It is as good as a dedicated router and easier to set up. That said, it's not a bad product, even if it is slightly overpriced. I also think there's a bit of placebo effect going on with some reviews I've seen. I think my slightly better numbers could be differences in some of my settings in my router, GPU settings, settings for Steam and Quest 2, and possibly due to my Ryzen 7 5800x3D CPU as well. I also get better Virtual Desktop performance than shown here at the max bitrate VD supports. I actually get slightly better performance than this guy does from my dedicated router with the same games or the D-link numbers shown here. The numbers are actually slightly better, but within margin of error, for a dedicated router. The reasoning is valid for why he bought a 6e router, but that invalidates the "price point" argument he makes entirely. He bought a 6e router, which is an extra expense, and the Quest 2 doesn't support 6e. This has been a pretty universal result from any benchmarking I've seen. I use Air Link when I can, because the quality is better, but Air Link has a habit of not working for a while on occasion due to updates screwing with it.Īlso, VD has other useful features that Air Link does not, such as an integrated video player and a much better desktop experience.įor streaming games, Air Link is better when it is working properly, but I dislike the idea that this thing is software locked and that I don't have a backup option other than Air Link.Ĭould be worth it depending on how it performs and what kind of gains cutting out the network stack gets it, but if you're just going from 30mb to 25mb regarding latency, it's not worth $100.īasically, there's no reason to buy this thing if you already have a setup that works well. VD has a lower max bitrate, but has consistently been more reliable long term. It's also Air Link only, which is something to consider. This thing had better cut latency in half and bump the bitrate by at least 50mbps to be worth the asking price over a halfway decent wifi 6 router. Though, admittedly I have a high end AX router as well. I already get great levels of latency and a rock solid signal from my existing router. It won't take long once they are available. Wait for benchmarks from independent 3rd parties, people.
